Simply Adored...

When I set out last night to create some Valentines it became clear that my mojo was not flowing!  Rather than scrap the project, I decided to snack.  I grabbed a bag of Pinto Bean Beanitos (my favorite hummus companion) which by the way happens to be Trader Joe's Mediterranean Hummus with Pine Nuts. Anyway, I kept fiddling with my tags and decided they were just too big and opted to fold them in half.  This created a nice little pocket in which I added the stamped sentiment; crisis averted.

Happy Valentines Day!

Art Journaling at Retreat...

Hello!

I am in Orlando enjoying some girl time with my art friends this weekend!  We visited the Farmer's Market earlier today to purchase edibles for our home cooked meal and have spent the rest of the day creating in the studio.  I had a hard time feeling inspired, which happens from time-to-time but I finally just started applying paint to the pages and adding paper scraps and things began to evolve. Here is what I have so far!  Not sure if I will actually finish these pages this weekend but I will post my progress so check back.

Have a  blessed day!

The Uni-ball Signo Broad Pen - A Must Have

One of my favorite journal artists, Kira Harding has done it again!  She has discovered an awesome doodle and journal pen and after reading her post HERE about it, I quickly jumped all over it.

I stalked my UPS guy on delivery day, his name is Mark, and tore the box open immediately to reaveal a box of beautiful (these guys are pretty) Uni-ball Signo Broad Um-153 Gel Ink Pens!  I popped off the cap and gave one a test drive.  Oh, boy!  I even did a "blur" test and brushed some water over my doodle marks.  Perfect...it truly is waterproof!  And if that wasn't enough, it writes over dried paint with ease!  The pens are a little pricey on their own but a box of 12 drops the price down about 50% off each pen!

Have a  blessed day!

Printmaking Unleashed - Part II...

Hello!

In Part II of my journey through Traci Bautista's new book called Printmaking Unleashed, I scanned several backgrounds created using techniques in her book.  I printed them and used them to create the background of my journal page.  I am offering these papers as free downloads for you to enjoy!

Have a  blessed day!

Roben-Marie

THE PROCESS

I followed several of Traci's technique ideas and in the early stages, I scanned the backgrounds into my computer. See Part I where I created the top two backgrounds.

I layered the backgrounds in PhotoShop, using a variety of layer styles.  I added doodles and parts of my own stamps to add some extra pattern.

I printed them onto paper, cut them and layered them to my journal page to create the base background.

I added doodles, painted shapes and handcarved stamps (leaf by Sandi Keene) to finish my journal page.

Printmaking Unleashed - Part I...

Hello!!

When I was asked by Traci Bautista to give her new book Printmaking Unleashed a test drive, I knew I would be inspired and had to say yes!  This book is filled with dozens of step-by-step printmaking ideas and I especially like that most include project ideas using the techniques. The ideas are inspiring and the pages are filled with colorful samples of Traci's artwork.

I chose to begin with the Fusion-Dyed Collage Skins.  I opted to keep mine fused with the page protector where I stitched it and added journal pages and a sari ribbon closure.  If you would like a chance to win the finished piece I created, see the drawing details at the bottom of the post.  For more detailed directions, see Traci's book or join her for Printmaking Unleashed LIVE Workshop.

I also created other backgrounds using a variety of techniques in this book and chose to scan them into my computer.  See my Part II post coming soon for details and an offering of free digital paper downloads.

Have a  blessed day!

Roben-Marie

Finished Journal

Dyed paper towels.

Paper towels glued to page protector.

Once dry, I stitched shapes with black thread.

Colorful sari ribbon was the perfect addition for trim around the journal and its closure.

I wrapped the sari around the edge of the journal and used a straight stitch to attach.

I chose several colors of sari to add more color to the finished journal.

I added little flower charms to the ends of the ribbon closure.

I used white paper with a combination of drafting paper for the inside pages.

I'm Working On This...

I was inspired this past weekend by a post on the Journal Girl blog!  Kira arrived at the studio to find a note left for her by an artist friend. It was on her art table and simply asked: "What are you working on?"  I am responding to that with this post.  I don't often "show" myself working in the studio deep in the process of creating. I am back to working more faithfully in my art journals.  It gives me a place to design and develop ideas for future projects and this day was a good day.  So, some insight...the things that aren't so obvious:

•I watched/listened to the maraton run of The Librarian while I worked.

•It was pouring rain all day and I felt super cozy inside the studio.

•I ate boiled peanut hummus for a snack.

What are you working on right now?

The Documented Life Project - 5/24 (Week 22)...

The Documented Life Project

May 24, 2014 - Week 22 Challenge - Draw, paint or sketch a house.

Visit the Art to the 5th blog for more inspiration.

For this week's challenge I chose to work on a file folder flap instead of a full piece of paper.  I cut my houses from vintage handwritten letters.  I added layers of paint, doodles and marks.  I thought the fortune was perfect for this challenge.

For Me @ Twenty-One...

Hello!

If you could tell yourself something at twenty-one what would it be? What advice would you give? What knowledge would you share?  I was asked to do just that for an on-going project.  Be sure to check out A Journey in Hindsight: At Twenty-One for more details.

I also want to thank everyone who joined me at 21 Secrets Live last night while I created this page. It was fun and I appreciate your questions and kind words!

Have a  blessed day!
